One of the most difficult aspects of being an artist is when to consider an art piece finished. I can work on something for a day, a month, and sometimes a year or longer. Certain artworks tell you when they’re done, but most can be reworked over and over again, and they can drive you absolutely bonkers.
Last week I sketched out this piece with charcoal onto a giant canvas (48”W x 30”H) with the intention of painting it sometime in the near future. I was sitting with my friends last night having a drink at Mordecai, and they asked me if I was working on anything new, so I showed them my very early stage of this painting. To my surprise they both thought that it looked finished!
This week I ask for your help and honest feedback. Does this look like a finished piece of artwork? Could you see this in a gallery, bar, or restaurant as is? Please comment to your liking and don’t hold back. Don’t worry, we artists are used to constant criticism which is probably why we are so often closed off from the rest of society, ha! But that’s a story for another day;)
